Details: The EU discusses a sanction package, which will be 19th since the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine in 2022.

The EU hopes to coordinate some of its actions with the United States, stated sources that have expressed on the conditions of anonymity. The delegation of EU officials will visit Washington this week to meet with American colleagues and discuss the possibility of joint action.
“We are ready to increase pressure on Russia, but we need our partners in Europe to support us,” said Finance Minister Scott Bessent in an interview with NBC on Sunday.
The US and Europe are discussing new sanctions and secondary tariffs for Russia, hoping that the “collapse” of the Russian economy will force Putin to sit at the peace talks with Ukraine, he added.
US President Donald Trump has still refrain from imposing direct sanctions against Russia. However, Trump doubled tariffs for goods from India to 50% due to its continuation of Russian oil purchases.
In addition to additional fees from Russian oil buyers, the US is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation and Rosneft and Lukoil energy companies as part of the list of potential options, as previously reported by Bloomberg.
According to sources, the future EU restriction package provides for the strengthening of sanctions on Russian “shadow fleet”, oil traders in third countries and may prohibit the reinsurance of tankers on the list.
