The EU can allocate € 100 billion in Ukraine in the next long -term budget – von der Lyen

The European Commission proposed macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the next long-term EU budget for 2028-2034.

“We are allocating 100 billion euros for Ukraine,” said the head of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen, presenting a new budget at a press conference.

According to the President of the European Commission, these funds will be replenished already created by Ukraine Facility, an EU tool designed to support Ukraine from 2024 to 2027. During this period, it is 50 billion euros.

They are designed to meet the immediate financial needs of Ukraine during the war, as well as for reconstruction, reforms and modernization.

“These 100 billion are coming to the existing fund of Ukraine. It was created by the heads of state and governments, as well as within the necessary process of joint legislation. So the fund exists. It was replenished with 50 billion euros during intermediate view (Budget for 2021-2027-Ed.)… And these 100 billion is a proposal to replenish this fund for the restoration of Ukraine, ”von Der Lyen emphasized.

The leader of the European Commission, however, did not answer the question of how to agree on the proposed budget of Victor Orban, who has already criticized the idea of allocation of funds to Ukraine and stressed that Hungary did not agree.

“Ukraine has been in the winning of the new plan of Brussels, as the European Commission allocates huge money to it. The main side of the losing is Europeans, in particular, farmers who can find themselves in a very difficult situation, ”said Orban on July 16 in a video report, which broadcast the M1 TV channel.

The budget proposed by the European Commission is still approved by the European Parliament and leaders of the EU Member States is unanimous. It must be approved by the end of 2027.

In the current EU budget, designed for 2021-2027, for the needs of Ukraine laid 50 billion euros in the form of loans and grants. They are paid tranches, the latter is provided, respectively, for 2027.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia in February 2022 from the EU budget, the efforts of individual Member States and within various initiatives, such as the use of profits from frozen Russian assets, the European Union mobilized in support of Ukraine Almost 165 billion euros.

This includes military, economic, humanitarian aid. Not all of these funds have received Ukraine – some of the initiatives are designed for the medium term, and payments for them are ongoing.
