The European Union is developing a new package of sanctions against Russia because of its aggression against Ukraine. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources. According to them, new sanctions will be directed against the Russian shadow fleet.

The EU intends to approve the restrictions by the end of the year, and to adopt them on February 24, 2025, the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine.

According to the interlocutors of the agency, the package will also provide for fines against persons connected with the trade in Russian oil. In addition, Brussels wants to raise tariffs on Russian agricultural goods, food and fertilizers, the publication says.

Sources told Bloomberg earlier that the US is also working on adopting new sanctions against Russia and North Korea. Washington wants to have time to approve the new package before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. He stated that he wanted to quickly end the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Western countries assume that some of Trump’s proposals may be disadvantageous for Kyiv. Trump has repeatedly said that he can end the war within 24 hours, but he has not made a specific plan public.
