The EU agreed on a positive enlargement report for Ukraine

The European Union has positively assessed the progress of reforms in Ukraine, according to the annual report on enlargement, which is compiled for all candidate states and which has already been agreed between the EU institutions. Source: “European Truth” with reference to numerous sources in the relevant institutions of Ukraine and the EU and to documents available to the publication Verbatim from the agreed text of the report: “Ukraine continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and commitment to its European path, despite the escalation of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression, including a significant increase in the number of Russian air attacks on cities and civilian objects, which has led to an increase in the number of casualties among civilian population”. Details: The European Commission explained that the document is “balanced” and confirms that Ukraine is one of the four countries moving towards the EU, along with Moldova, Albania and Montenegro. They noted that the progress of the last two is higher. However, Ukraine’s indicators are also positive, and the progress of reforms for the year was rated higher than in the two previous years, since Ukraine entered the enlargement package. According to the “fundamental” chapters 23 and 24, which also include the judiciary and the fight against corruption, Ukraine received exactly the same assessment as last year – “certain progress”. The publication emphasizes that this was achieved due to indicators other than anti-corruption, as the EC noted “limited progress” and emphasized that the attempt to undermine the independence of anti-corruption institutions was “reversed” very quickly. Several sources separately expressed surprise at the “downpour” in the Reuters agency that the report on Ukraine allegedly contains statements about “negative trends” in Ukraine. “This message is false, there are no such quotes in the document agreed last week (and which is at the disposal of the EP”), the publication emphasizes. The representative of Ukraine to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, in response to the EP’s request on this matter, stated that “he was briefed by the European Commission and received an assurance that such phrases are not in the report; and work on the EC’s communication is still ongoing.” The EC will officially release the package of documents on November 4 at noon. At the same time, the publication notes that the report on Ukraine does contain criticism of Ukraine’s anti-corruption actions in July, and the phrase that “excessive pressure on anti-corruption bodies (still) remains a matter of concern (from the EU).” “In general, the EU did not find a single section of the negotiations where Ukraine did not show progress over the past year. According to different chapters, it ranges from “limited” to “good”, – writes the publication. It is noted that “European Truth” will feed a more detailed analysis of the report after its publication. The expert community was waiting for a more critical document from the EC, read about it in the article “A year of stagnation, not reforms. A critical report of the European Commission awaits Ukraine.” Read about last year’s report in the article “From “corruption” to a telethon: how the EU assesses Ukraine’s readiness for accession.””, — write: www.pravda.com.ua
