During the first teleconference in 2025 ACDE Call Ethereum developers have planned to activate the Pectra update on the mainnet for early to mid-March.
A large-scale upgrade involves the implementation of a wide list EIP. The proposals include improvements to the account abstraction technology, changes to the operation of validators, optimization of gas fees and network performance improvements.
The maximum validator stake limit is expected to increase from 32 to 2048 ETH.
Pectra Upgrade: On the Road to Ethereum Scaling and Mass Adoption
About half an hour before the meeting, the engineers launched the fifth one devnet to check the planned changes. Since November, the Mekong temporary testnet has been used for the same.
Key developer Tim Beko presented a timeline for further testing of the update on major test networks:
- by the end of January, the team will define blocks for forks;
- will prepare client releases by February 3;
- On February 12, the upgrade will be implemented in Sepolia;
- February 19 — at Holesky.
In order to optimize the process, the developers decided not to create new temporary solutions to check the corrections made to the code. Instead, they use shadow forks main testnets.
Frédéric Cervantes, a protocol security researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, announced the completion of a third-party audit of Pectra’s system contracts. Experts did not find any serious problems, he noted.
It will be recalled that in May 2024, the developers decided that they would complete the preparation of the upgrade in the main network by the first quarter of 2025. In September, they discussed splitting the update into two phases to speed up its rollout.
