Ukraine’s power system is currently operating close to a critical limit due to increased Russian shelling, but the country has so far managed to avoid large-scale power outages.

Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk said this in an interview with DW.

“We had a large-scale blackout only in 2022. All subsequent heating seasons, we kept the system unified and controlled,” Kolisnyk emphasized.

According to him, the intensity of attacks by Russia has increased significantly. In particular, in November of this year alone, the Russian army deployed more than 5,200 Shahed drones and more than 200 missiles. This is more than three times higher than the previous heating season.

At the same time, Ukraine actively attracts international aid for the restoration of damaged energy equipment. Through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund platform, international donors supply electric cables, emergency equipment, hoists, as well as complex equipment, including voltage and communication transformers.

“We are now trying to communicate with international partners in order to obtain the necessary equipment for emergency and restoration work with the same intensity. We are talking about electric cables, both simple electrical equipment and complex: voltage and communication transformers and other technical means. “Unfortunately, in some places the emergency crews themselves suffer directly, in some places emergency vehicles, machines for high-altitude work, hoists, and various equipment are damaged,” the deputy minister concluded.

In “Ukrenergo” reported that consumption of electricity shows an upward trend.
