In the energy system of Ukraine, there is an acute shortage of capacity, which cannot be covered due to the existing generation and import of electricity.
This was stated by the chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo” Vitaly Zaichenko during the online meeting of the board of the European Business Association.
According to him, the attraction of private investments in the construction of new generation facilities is critically important for the Ukrainian energy industry.
“Thanks to the special auctions of Ukrenergo, 423 MW of new generating capacity appeared in the energy system last year,” Zaichenko said.
He also noted that it is important to connect to the general network the backup capacities of businesses and industries, which are currently only used for emergency or hourly power.
“If such installations will work on the electricity market, they could cover part of the capacity deficit and at the same time bring profit to their owners,” added the head of NEC “Ukrenergo”.
Today, January 28, emergency power cuts were introduced in a number of regions of Ukraine due to new shelling by the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, hourly blackouts will be introduced in all regions of Ukraine on January 28.
