According to South Korean intelligence, the DPRK decided to send 12,000 soldiers, including a special-purpose unit, to the war against Ukraine. This is reported by Reuters.
South Korea has said that North Korea has sent troops to Russia, which poses a serious threat to the security of the international community, to which Seoul will respond “by all available means”.
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol is said to have held an unscheduled security meeting with key intelligence, military and national security officials to discuss the involvement of North Korean soldiers in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Previously, South Korean officials stated that some North Korean military personnel are in Russia and participating in its war against Ukraine, but did not give a specific answer to the question of the nature and scale of such deployment.
On October 18, the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said that almost 11,000 North Korean soldiers are currently training in eastern Russia to fight against Ukraine.

On October 14, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin introduced a draft law on the ratification of the treaty to the State Duma “on a comprehensive strategic partnership” between the Russian Federation and the DPRK.
On October 15, it was reported that the occupiers of the Russian Federation formed a special Buryat battalion staffed by citizens of the DPRK, while 18 servicemen from North Korea had already escaped from positions on the border of the Bryansk and Kursk regions.
On October 16, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, the DPRK is handing over people to Russia for military operations against Ukraine and work at factories.
