The Defense Forces of Ukraine conducted the first ground attack on the front exclusively using unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) and FPV drones instead of infantry, successfully destroying the positions of the Russian invaders. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for December 20.
A representative of the Ukrainian brigade operating in the Kharkiv direction reported that the attack was carried out in the area of the settlement of Liptsi, north of Kharkiv. He did not specify the dates.
According to the data, the Defense Forces attacked the Russians with dozens of UGVs equipped with machine guns, and also used UGVs to set up and demine positions.
This confirms Ukraine’s efforts to use technology to compensate for limited manpower compared to Russia’s military, which is willing to accept heavy casualties for minor territorial gains, ISW points out.
The institute also noted that Ukraine continues to improve the production of drones. On December 20, the General Staff of the Armed Forces announced the completion of tests of UAVs on optical fiber, which will be more resistant to radio-electronic warfare interference (REB). Russian troops have recently deployed such drones, in particular, in the Kursk region.
Ukraine also announced that it had assembled a prototype of the first FPV drone made exclusively from domestically produced components.
