A fire broke out in residential high-rise buildings in Hong Kong on November 26. The fire quickly engulfed 7 out of 8 high-rises in the northern district of Tai Po. The houses were undergoing reconstruction – bamboo scaffolding and protective plastic nets were installed around them. It is noted that flammable materials on the outside of the buildings contributed to the spread of the fire.
According to the BBC, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. So far, 8 people have been detained on suspicion of corruption during the repair – in particular, the directors of the engineering company and subcontractors who were engaged in the installation of scaffolding.
The fire was completely extinguished only on November 28. One rescuer died, 12 others were injured.
As of November 30, the police have completed the survey of four multi-story buildings.
