This is reported by Deutsche Welle. Photos and videos are circulating on social networks: they show that water has reached the Hungarian Parliament building.

According to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the peak of flooding is expected in Budapest on the evening of Saturday, September 21. He claims that despite the seriousness of the situation, the Hungarian authorities have enough resources to fight the natural disaster.

Orban said that the water level in the Danube will reach its peak in Budapest on Saturday afternoon, closer to the evening, and will be 846 cm. In 2013, the record was broken in the capital of Hungary – when the water level in the river reached 891 cm.

The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that the water will likely recede from the embankments of Budapest in the middle or at the end of next week.

The publication Index writes that due to the flood, the operation of several ferries in Hungary has been completely suspended. A number of roads are also closed to traffic.

Flood in Europe – detailsFloods in Central Europe are moving to new territories. Volunteers and emergency workers worked through the night to fortify the Polish city of Wroclaw against the oncoming flood waters. At the same time, Hungary opened the dam as the prime minister warned of a “critical period” approaching.

The worst floods in 20 years left a trail of destruction from Romania to Poland, spreading mud and debris in cities, destroying bridges, inundating cars and leaving billions of dollars in damage.
