The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, welcomed the EU leaders’ agreement on joint borrowing for Ukraine, but hinted that he would prefer the Czech Republic to join this mechanism.

Details: Pavel called the fact that the European Council reached an agreement on financial assistance to Ukraine “extremely important”.

“Russia’s war of aggression is exhausting the country. Our aid is vital for the survival of Ukraine. But it is also a far-sighted contribution to the security of Europe and the Czech Republic,” wrote the Czech president.

“That’s why I think it’s right that we, together with other Europeans, show that we are able to take our share of responsibility and guarantee the fate of our continent,” he added.

As you know, the summit of the European Union approved a decision on joint borrowing for Ukraine in the amount of EUR 90 billion. Together with Slovakia and Hungary, the Czech Republic agreed that “it will not bear responsibility for him.”
