The Cure team won their own of the first ever Grammy awards for Songs Of A Lost World LP, reports NME, informs UNN.

During the ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on the evening of February 1, the band received two awards – “Best Alternative Music Album” and “Best Alternative Music Performance”, the latter for Alone.

They have been nominated for a Grammy only twice before, each time for Best Alternative Music Album – in 1993 for Wish and in 2001 for Bloodflowers – but both times they went without an honor.

They were unable to attend the awards ceremony as they were attending the funeral of their longtime guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte, who passed away in December at the age of 65.

However, they did broadcast a speech that was read from the stage, in which frontman Robert Smith said: “Simon, Jason, Roger, Reeves and I would like to thank the Grammys for this wonderful award, we are honored to receive it.”

“We would also like to thank everyone who helped us create our Songs Of A Lost World album,” he noted.

They beat Bon Iver, Turnstile, Wet Leg and Hayley Williams in the Best Alternative Music Performance category, and Bon Iver, Tyler, The Creator, Wet Leg and Hayley Williams won in the Best Alternative Music Album category.

Songs Of A Lost World was the band’s first album in 16 years.

Their last live performance was a chamber album release party at London’s Troxy club, the recording of which was later released as the live film The Show Of A Lost World. They also released a remix album, Mixes Of A Lost World.

Additionally At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, Bad Bunny won Album of the Year for Debí Tirar Más Fotos.

Kendrick Lamar won Record of the Year for his Luther Vandross tribute song Luther, while Billie Eilish and her brother Phineas O’Connell won Song of the Year for Wildflower.
