The Verkhovna Rada was unable to pass a resolution on renaming 336 toponyms, due to which people’s deputies blocked the rostrum. Parliamentarians announced this in their social networks.

At the request of the people’s deputies, the leadership of the parliament closed the meeting and invited the leaders of the factions to the conciliation council.

On September 18, 208 People’s Deputies voted for the de-Russification and decolonization of cities, districts, towns and villages, which is not enough to make a decision.

In accordance with by Resolution No. 11188, Yuzhnoukrainian, Yuzhne, Novomoskovsk, Pavlograd, Vatutine, Pervomaiskyi should be renamed. A total of 15 cities, seven districts and hundreds of villages and towns named after Suvorov, Pushkin or in honor of May 1. In particular, Pavlograd was to become Matviivy, Chervonograd – Sheptytskyi, Novopskov – Aydar, the village of Pershotravneve in the Nikopol region – Mozolevskyi.

Also, according to the document, Novomoskovsk will become the city of Samar, Krasnograd – Berestyn, Druzhba – Khutir-Mykhailivskyi, Pershotravnevsk – Shakhtarsk, Yuzhnoukrainian – Gard, Pervomaisk – Zlatopil, Yuzhnoe – Port-Annental, Vatutino – Bagacheve, Synelnikove – Rydnopillya.

  • On July 31, the mayor of Odesa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, said that the renaming of Zhvanetsky Boulevard “resets” the city.
