Former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have agreed to testify in the House of Representatives’ investigation into the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Details: The publication notes that a vote was scheduled in the House of Representatives this week to hold the Clintons criminally liable for contempt of court if they continue to ignore subpoenas as part of the investigation into Epstein and his activities.

The Clintons’ attorneys said in a letter to James Comer, Republican of Kentucky, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, that the couple accepts the committee’s terms and is ready to appear to testify on agreed dates.

Literally from the Clintons’ letter: “Consistent with committee practice, please confirm that the House will not proceed with contempt of court proceedings, as the committee chairman indicated in his letter this morning.”

Details: However, Comer’s office said: “The Clintons’ attorneys said they agreed to the terms, but again those terms are not clear and they did not provide a date for testimony.”

Representative Robert Garcia of California, the senior Democrat on the committee, told reporters that the Clintons “want to talk to the oversight committee.”

“He has no choice but to accept” the Clintons’ offer, Garcia said of Comer.

Bill Clinton has previously said he severed ties with Epstein years before his death in a New York prison cell in 2019 and that he had no knowledge of his crimes.

Bloomberg adds that a former president testifying before a congressional body is almost unheard of in the United States.

We will remind: US President Donald Trump told reporters that the Justice Department should do other things after the release of materials in the Jeffrey Epstein case. Trump also denied that he had ever been “on Epstein’s despicable island.”

During the Grammy Awards, host Trevor Noah mocked Donald Trump for his friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein and former US President Bill Clinton.

Newly released files related to the case of convicted billionaire Jeffrey Epstein show that he had access to highly sensitive discussions of British government policy at the height of the global financial crisis.

Prehistory:

  • Epstein committed suicide in a prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of minors.
  • In recent months, Epstein’s case gained special political weight in the US, when evidence of a possible close relationship between the deceased and Donald Trump, which he publicly denies, appeared.
