The special anti-corruption prosecutor’s office submitted an indictment to the court against two deputies of the Sumy Regional Council, who were exposed in March for giving a bribe of $100,000 to the head of the city’s military administration.

“Based on the materials of the NABU’s pre-trial investigation, the prosecutor of the SAP sent to the court an indictment against two deputies of the Sumy Regional Council, who were exposed in March of this year for offering and providing $100,000 in illegal benefits to the head of the Sumy City Military Administration,” the message reads.
According to the investigation, the deputies wanted to “lobby” the unification of several local medical facilities into one hospital, because this would ensure an increase in funding and the appointment of one of the persons who offered the bribe as the head of the combined hospital.
In addition, the suspects proposed to the head of the military administration to allocate almost 59 million hryvnias for the financing of the joint health care facility. They wanted to direct the funds to the purchase of works and equipment, the cost of which was deliberately inflated by 10-20%, amounting to almost UAH 7 million, with the aim of taking possession of them in the future.
Both deputies were detained when they handed over the first part of the $50,000 bribe.
