Kostadinov said that Ukraine is in a “state of disintegration”.
The politician wrote on his Facebook page that he supports the desire of newly elected President Donald Trump to join Canada to the United States. According to a similar principle, Kostadinov advocates the unification of Bulgaria and North Macedonia into a common state, as well as the return of South Bessarabia to its composition:
“This territory was part of the Bulgarian state for more than 450 years, Bulgarians are the indigenous population of this region (since the 6th century) and remain the majority of the population to this day. Ukraine has owned Southern Bessarabia for only 34 years.”
He also stated that Ukraine is now in a “state of disintegration”, and at the upcoming congress, where the “fate of Ukrainian statehood” will be decided, Bulgaria should put forward its claims to Bessarabia.
The embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria has already reacted to Kostadinov’s statement and called on the country’s leadership to condemn the politician’s statement. Diplomats noted that he incites the destruction of the norms of international law, distorts historical facts and encourages the redistribution of borders in Europe.
“The statements of the leader of the “Renaissance” party regarding territorial encroachments on Ukraine are unacceptable for a politician of an EU member state, and confirm his systematic promotion of the Kremlin’s narratives,” the message reads.
Southern Bessarabia (Bujak) is a historical region in the confluence of the Danube and Dniester rivers, in the southwest of the Odesa region. In the north it borders with Moldova, in the west with Romania. Southern Bessarabia became part of the Ukrainian SSR not 34 years ago, as Kostadinov claims, but 85 years ago – in 1940.
Trump’s encroachment on CanadaIt will be recalled that the newly elected American president made several statements regarding the accession of Canada to the United States of America. Soon he directly called on its inhabitants to unite into one country.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rejected this proposal. In his opinion, Trump is making such statements to divert attention from raising tariffs on Canadian imports.
