The youngest winners
The 1989 and 1990 tournaments became a triumph of youth. In 1989, American Michael Chang on his second Rolan Garros at the age of 17 and 3 months defeated the first racket of Ivan Landl’s world in the 1/8 finals, and later won the whole tournament. The following year, Yugoslavka Monica Selesh, who was only 16 years old and 6 months, became a champion, overcoming the first racket of World Steff Graf in the finals. This record has not yet been exceeded.
The oldest champions
Age is not always an obstacle to success. Novak Djokovich and Serena Williams confirmed this: Serb won the title in 2023 at the age of 36 and 20 days, easily defeating Casper Rus, and Williams won her 20th title in 2015 in 2015 in the Great Helmet at 33 and 8 months.
The longest matches
Although the match between the Mota and Lorenzo Dzhustino Covenant in 2020 lasted 6 hours and 5 minutes (and the Frenchman’s defeat ended), this is not a record Rolan Harros. In 2004, in the first round between the two Frenchmen – Fabris Santoro and Arno Cleman – the match lasted 6 hours and 33 minutes. Among the women, the record belongs to Virjini Busson and Noel Van Lottum, who spent 4 hours and 7 minutes at the court in 1995.
The longest victorious series
Raphael Nadal did not defeat Rolan Garros from 2010 to 2015. His series of 39 wins was interrupted in the quarterfinals Novak Djokovich. Women Chris Evert, who won seven titles and won 28 victories in a row (1974, 1975, 1979 and 1980).
The most titled countries
Among men is the leader of Spain with 23 titles, of which 14 belong to Raphael. Also won by Sergey Bruger (2), Manuel Santana (2), Juan Carlos Ferrero, Albert Costa, Carlos Moya, Andres Himeo and Carlos Alaras – one at a time.
