At the “Krakowec” checkpoint on the border with Poland, traffic may be complicated due to the introduction of the new European Entry and Exit System at External Borders (EES).
The State Border Service of Ukraine (SPSU) warned about this.
The EES system records data on crossing the external borders of the Schengen area without stamping passports. Its purpose is to strengthen security, accurately record the periods of stay of foreigners, and fight against illegal migration.
What the first registration in EES involves:
- Face photography.
- Removal of four fingerprints.
Subsequent border crossings will be faster, as the data will be checked with the database automatically. The system will also record the date, time and place of entry and exit.
At the time of notification, there were 50 cars leaving Ukraine in front of the checkpoint “Krakivets”.
Phased implementation of EES in the European Union started on October 12 — this system automates the recording of biometric data during entry and exit and should increase the speed and accuracy of control.
Within the Ukrainian direction, three road checkpoints have already been connected to the EES: “Sheghini”, “Solotvyno” and “Luzhanka” – a “massive” simultaneous connection of all crossings was not planned.
