Yuri Fedorenko, commander of the battalion of the Achilles attack unmanned aerial systems of the 92nd separate assault brigade named after Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirk, in an interview with Radio NV – about the battles in the Kharkiv region, the use of drones in late autumn and winter, as well as radio electronic warfare (REB).

— At the end of last week, the Achilles battalion together with other units in this direction (The 1st brigade of the operational assignment of Bureviy State University, the 77th aeromobile brigade) posted another video of how the enemy’s mechanized attack is taking place. About a dozen pieces of equipment were used, this attack was stopped. Not to say that it’s rare, but it happens once every two or three weeks, if I’m not mistaken?

— Probably more often, since the unit continues to perform tasks for the current moment on three segments. Therefore, one way or another, the enemy continues to use armored vehicles, mainly to provide logistics to the front edge of its assault groups; to bring in additional assets that are necessary to maintain positions, as well as to build capabilities for the possibility of advancing deep into our operational space.

If we talk about Kupyan Oblast in general, the enemy is located in Kruglyakivka, near the Oskil River itself. Let’s recall how it was, how many vehicles the Defense Forces managed to burn and how the enemy achieved this success. If you remember, for two and a half weeks there were fairly active shock and assault actions from the enemy. During these two and a half weeks, more than 100 units of armor were used. As a result, with such waves, the enemy gained a certain tactical advantage in Kruglyakivka.

But at the moment, all the equipment that appears in the zone of damage of our fire means is destroyed on the battlefield. Then, out of 100 units, the Defense Forces managed to destroy 90 in two and a half weeks, the Achilles battalion has 60% of the total destruction of equipment on the battlefield.

Why does the enemy this time, realizing that he can be burned, continue to use the technique? Because his advanced groups, in particular those located in Kruglyakivka, are in temporary shelters, they have both a lack of ammunition and the necessary provisions to continue building up combat capabilities. As a result, the enemy is trying to ensure, at the expense of armor, the prompt introduction of new changes, replenishment of personnel and transportation of ammunition.

The weather was, to put it mildly, unfavorable on the day when eight units of the enemy’s equipment came out. Now we need to understand how the weather changes in the Kharkiv region: in the morning it snows, then it rains, then the temperature is sub-zero, fog appears and everything repeats itself in a circle. The adversary understands that one way or another unmanned systems – both reconnaissance and strike – are decreasing in efficiency, and tries to use this to the maximum and full extent to build up its capabilities.

But when the effectiveness of reconnaissance means does not cease to be maximum on the battlefield, but decreases, additional, other means of reconnaissance come into play. The enemy was detected in time, out of eight units of armored vehicles, Achilles damaged eight and destroyed six. But this is the joint work of both the 1st brigade of the NGU and the 77th, because the means of reconnaissance, additional fire influence, and the guns that began to work on the enemy assault infantry remaining after the damage to the armored vehicles are collective joint work, when shoulder to shoulder one supports the other. As a result, the enemy lost all eight units of equipment on the battlefield and had no success.

And in general, on this stretch, if you look at the dynamics, in the direction of Kolesnikivka, the Defense Forces not only stopped the enemy’s offensive, but in the last three weeks, it has not lost a single position. It was possible to move the enemy from the Kolesnikov Forest.

As for the direction Zagryzove-Lozova, the situation there is somewhat different. The enemy is as active as possible, directly hitting now in this direction. In the last period, he had, unfortunately, tactical results, managed to master a number of positions.

But the price the enemy pays for this is that the enemy’s assault infantry is wiped out in landings and forest landings. It is not possible to keep the intensity of the enemy constantly high at the moment. Assault operations are going on around the clock, the enemy is trying to delay the infantry around the clock. But if you compare the onslaught that was three weeks ago and now, you can say that the enemy is forced to move in certain waves. It is quite difficult for him to maintain constant dynamics.

— Do I understand correctly that the most important task in defense now is to prevent the enemy from contacting our infantrymen in the trench, because the Russians are physically more numerous. The day before, there was the largest number of skirmishes on the front – almost 300. This shows the general situation – the enemy is very, very keen to break something. Would it be correct to say that it is necessary to keep the enemy at arm’s length so that physical contact does not occur? Obviously, this is a big task for such units as your battalion.
