Details: The review notes that Russian forces have recently resumed offensive operations on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions and have made tactical gains in local offensive operations, but this activity does not yet appear to be part of a larger operational offensive effort in support of a broader Russian offensive operation in the west Donetsk region.

Literally ISW: “These tactical successes are not the result of a sudden or unexpected breakthrough by Russian forces.”

Details: Experts recall that at the beginning of October, Russian troops became more active on the front line in the west of the Zaporizhzhia region near Kamianskyi (south of Stepnohirsk), but this activity was limited so far and led to only minor tactical gains.

At the same time, the review notes, the Russians may become active again in less active areas of the front in southern Ukraine in order to divert Ukraine’s attention from Russia’s priority offensive operations in the Donetsk region, as well as in order to fix Ukrainian troops along the front in southern Ukraine and not allow the redeployment of Ukrainian troops to Donetsk region.

Literally ISW: “However, ISW has not documented reports that Russian forces are conducting significantly large-scale offensive operations on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions, or amassing manpower and materiel for an increased offensive effort comparable to Russian offensive operations in eastern Ukraine.

Russian troops, on the contrary, redeployed forces that were previously in the border zone of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions and elsewhere in southern Ukraine to respond to the Ukrainian invasion of Kursk.
