In the 117th separate heavy mechanized brigade, a solemn ceremony of handing over military flags to the units of the unit took place.
The team reported this on Facebook.
The commander of the brigade, Colonel Dmytro Yevtushenko, officially presented these symbols to the battalions and divisions, establishing a new tradition of honoring the fighting spirit of servicemen. The flag, which is traditionally a cloth with military symbols on a pole, has long been considered one of the most important Ukrainian military signs, which defines the identity and unity of soldiers.
For each unit, the banner becomes a real shrine that embodies military glory, traditions and collective memory of joint achievements on the battlefield. This symbol of honor and trust not only emphasizes the high role of each fighter in the general struggle for independence, but also serves as a moral pillar that unites personnel around common values. The introduction of such symbols is an important stage in the development of the modern Ukrainian army, which respects its history and strengthens unity in the resistance to Russian aggression.
While the Russian Federation is trying to erase Ukrainian identity and demoralize defenders, the revival of such military rituals demonstrates the resilience of generations and the indomitable spirit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Awareness of one’s own success through military symbols helps soldiers to maintain stability in the most difficult moments of service. Each flag handed over today is a pledge of loyalty to the people of Ukraine and a reminder that behind every unit there is a glorious history of struggle that cannot be broken by the enemy.
We will remind, during the solemn ceremony on January 29, 2026, the Head of State presented the highest state awards to soldiers who showed exceptional courage in the battles for the independence of Ukraine.
Former President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed Decree No. 2/2026 of January 2 on awarding 310 Ukrainian servicemen with state awards.
