USDT issuer Tether is considering the prospect of expanding its operations in the US amid hopes for friendly cryptopolitics in the country. This was announced by the head of the company, Paolo Ardoino in an interview with Bloomberg Television.

“I don’t rule out that Tether could get a little bit closer to having some presence in the US, but we’re also doing it cautiously. […] At this time, we need clarity and guidance in regulation. We need to see what the laws will look like in the US, and then we will decide,” he said.

According to Ardoino, the firm also intends to increase efforts to promote its interests in American politics. In September 2024, PayPal native Jess Spiro was appointed to the role of head of government relations at Tether. In recent years, the company has been among the leaders in spending on lobbying in the United States.

The head of Tether added that the firm could exceed the profit plan for 2024, thanks in particular to the rally of bitcoin.

The USDT issuer has not officially served US customers since 2018. In 2021, the company paid US authorities $41 billion as part of a settlement of a “false statements” lawsuit regarding the provision of a stablecoin.

It will be recalled that in January 2025, Tether announced the relocation of its headquarters from the British Virgin Islands to El Salvador.
