This week, the price of table beet rose on the Ukrainian market due to the increase in demand. At the same time, part of the farmers suspended the sale of quality products, expecting a further increase in prices.
In the current week, a trend of rising prices for table beets has formed in Ukraine, project analysts report EastFruit.
Market participants attribute the price increase to a significant increase in trading activity in this segment, while many farms refrain from selling high-quality beets, expecting further price increases.
Currently, Ukrainian producers are shipping table beets at prices from 6 to 11 hryvnias per kilogram, or from 0.14 to 0.25 US dollars per kilogram. On average, it is about 15 percent more expensive than the week before.
Several factors allow farmers to raise selling prices. First of all, it is about the growth of demand: both wholesale companies and retail chains are actively buying beets. At the same time, the supply on the market remains limited, because some farms deliberately hold back sales in anticipation of further price increases.
Despite the current growth, table beet prices in Ukraine are still on average 47 percent lower than the same period last year. At the same time, market participants do not rule out that the current trend may be temporary. Further price increases may encourage farmers to sell more from storage, which could increase supply and ultimately push prices down again.
