The Defense Forces of Ukraine in 2025 acted not only in defense, but also had offensive actions, said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

“In 2025, the Defense Forces of Ukraine conducted three offensive operations, two of which were on the territory of the Russian Federation: in the Belgorod region and in the Kursk region. The third operation took place in the Dobropilsk direction. These actions thwarted the enemy’s plans to seize Donetsk region and create so-called buffer zones,” the military commander said during a conversation with journalists, reports RFE/RL’s correspondent.

At the peak of the expansion of its zone of control in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian military was stationed in the small border town of Suja and part of two districts of this Russian region.
