Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga emphasized at the meeting of the heads of foreign policy departments of the OSCE member states in Vienna that it is critical for Ukraine to receive real, not formal security guarantees within the framework of the future peace agreement with Russia.
He emphasized that “peace should not be an illusion, but the result of stable and proven security mechanisms”, because guarantees can become the foundation for the stability of the whole of Europe.
According to the minister, now is a chance to speed up efforts towards peace, but it is important that this process does not turn into a compromise that will leave Ukraine vulnerable.
Sybiga thanked the US for its role in promoting peace initiatives and supporting Ukraine’s position in the international arena.
At the same time, he emphasized that “security should be the basis for everything else”, and only firm guarantees can prevent the repetition of past mistakes.
The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that the history of Europe knows many examples of unfair peace agreements that did not bring peace, but only laid the groundwork for new conflicts.
“Europe has already paid a high price for short-sighted agreements. That is why today it is necessary to confirm the commitment to the Helsinki Decalogue and its principles,” Sibiga emphasized.
He also called on the OSCE states to show determination and do everything possible to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine.
We will remind you that the EU plans to include Ukraine in the “military Schengen”.
Also, the issue of Ukraine’s accession to NATO can be decided only by countries that are already members of the Alliance.
