Details: Stenergard said that efforts to contain Russia are yielding obvious results. In particular, according to her, the sanctions imposed against Russia’s energy sector and shadow fleet have significantly reduced the revenues that Russia can use for aggression against Ukraine.

Therefore, she emphasized that the EU should continue to put pressure on Russia.
To this end, Stenergaard asked Callas to add the following measures to the proposal for the 20th EU sanctions package:
- a complete ban on maritime services for any vessels transporting Russian carbon energy resources from Russian ports;
- strengthening measures against Russian exports of fertilizers to the EU;
- abolition of the value threshold for luxury goods.
She noted that European luxury goods have a symbolic and political meaning that goes beyond their monetary value.
“Luxury items should not be exported to Russia, regardless of their price. We hope to continue our close cooperation,” Stenergard added.
It was recently written that the 20th package of sanctions against Russia is an EU country plan to approve to the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
On December 18, the EU imposed sanctions on more than 40 vessels of Russia’s “shadow fleet”.
