39-year-old French tennis player and husband Elina Svitolina Gael Montiswhich ranks 53 in the ATP ranking, said he would end his career in 2026.

“For the first time, I took a racket in my hands in two and a half years and started playing professionally at 18. Now, celebrating my 39th birthday just a month ago, I want to inform that next year it will become my last as a professional tennis player.

The opportunity to turn my passion for a profession is a privilege that I appreciated in every match and at every moment of my 21-year-old career. Although this game means everything to me, I am absolutely calm about the decision to complete a career at the end of the tennis season of 2026.

Basically I feel crowded. I would like to express her so many people:

  • My wife Elina: my love, inspiration and strength – and an outstanding athlete by itself.
  • My daughter ski, for that deep love, meaning and joy she brought in my days.
  • My brother Daril and my sisters Roddi and Maleli for supporting me in difficult times and helped to celebrate the good.
  • My best friends and loved ones whose face was always added to me courage when it was most important.
  • My ancient agent Nicolas, whose support and friendship helped me achieve the highest peaks and survive the hardest falls.
  • My coaches and members of the team over all these years, who believed in a long -haired guy from Paris and helped develop my talent as I could never imagine.
  • Every person who has ever cheered or shouted “Allez, Gaël!” Live or near TV screen: your energy and love are really everything for me.
  • French tennis federation for their constant support from the first day.
  • Zo-Vilfridu Tsonga, I am Zimon and Richar Gaske-my three musketeers and the best friends for life.
  • And most of all – my parents: because it would not be impossible, even unthinkable, without them.
  • Dad, Mom, look at how far we went.

Although I was close, I never won the Grand Slam for my career. I will not pretend to hope to do this next year. “You could, you should have …”

As those who know me can confirm, I never thought so, and honestly, I’m too old to start thinking so now. Life is too short. Believe me, when I say so, I have no regrets.

What I have is the feeling that I was lucky: insanely, foolishly lucky. I had the opportunity to play tennis gold era, next to some of the most prominent names in the history of our sports: Fedorr, Nadal, Jokovich, Marrei.

Even the defeats seem epic when you meet with legend (although it should be admitted that random victories were quite euphoric).

Already here is a new, exciting generation of players, and I hope that they will enjoy their time on the court just as I enjoyed in the last two decades. The risk of sounding up as a father, and I am, it really goes so quickly.

In addition to “Lamonf”, I was called “showman” during my career, but I want you to know: it never had just a show for the public.
What you see is a joy, a pure joy that shimmers over the edge. My passion and pleasure on the court are real, and their energy charges me in every match. I think that the audience is perceived as “show” is a current that goes through all of them and returns to my game.
Complete circle of admiration and pleasure.

When you love something so much, never it seems that the right time to say goodbye. But 40 will be the right time for me.
Of course, to win another title to completion would be truly incredible. But, truth be told, my only true goal for the coming year is simple:

Enjoy every minute and play every match as if he’s my last. With love and gratitude, Gael Montis, ”Gaelm posted such a letter on his Instagram.

The Montishes plans to play the whole season of 2026 and say goodbye to a professional Master’s career in Paris.

During his professional career, the Montis, who reached the sixth place in the ATP ranking, won 13 titles, including three ATP 500 tournaments. 22 times he stopped a step from the victory, giving way to ATP competitions, including three times in the Master’s Series.

Grand Slam tournaments are the highest achievements of Rolan Garros 2008 and US Open 2016.
