The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina (WTA 12) gave an on-court flash interview after defeating Mirra Andreeva in the 2026 Australian Open fourth round match:

– This is simply incredible. I am very satisfied with today’s performance, I had to fight until the last point. It was an extremely nervous match and I am very happy with the way I performed.

– Last year you played with Mira and lost to her. What did you do today to win? The second set was very tense. What do you think you did well today?

– I expected a tough fight and many long draws. I just tried to move really well today, tried to be really focused and find, you know, little weaknesses in her game, try to exploit them.

– Today you looked very calm. Not that you weren’t calm before, but you were very focused and focused. You said that your husband, Gael Monfils, told you that sometimes you need to be more relaxed. This was his advice. Looks like you really followed that advice today.

– Today I was not relaxed (laughs). So he won’t be happy, but I think he might be happy with my win today. The saddest thing is when you lose matches. And most of your career you lose matches every week and you have to recover, you have to get back on the court and try to work, try again next week and try to play better the next week.

– After the first round, you had some time and you played during the day. You said you had time and that you were going to take Gael’s credit card and go shopping. Looks like it worked because you won. Maybe you should keep doing that. How will this show up on Gail’s credit card?

– Well, I’m not sure that we will see him at the next match. He must fly. These are the pleasant moments we spend together both on and off the court. So of course it’s great to have him around.

– Your daughter Skye is still small. She can’t be in the box, but can you tell me a little bit about her? Will you celebrate with her today? What will it look like?

– We will communicate on FaceTime as a whole family. Luckily it’s daytime in Europe so we can do it and enjoy the moment together. She knows that we play tennis and that it is our job, but she thinks that all parents play tennis professionally (laughs). It’s nice, of course, but I think that one day she will become an athlete herself. Let’s see how she does.

– So, will we see coach Elina and coach Gael in boxing?

– Maybe in another sport. I think it will be too much tennis for us (laughs).

– Rest. You still have a lot of tennis ahead of you. See you in the quarterfinals.
