Citing people familiar with the situation, The Washington Post reports that Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is quietly promoting a revised peace plan that contains certain provisions that are not to the satisfaction of Kyiv.
The publication adds that high-ranking US military officials are performing an unusual diplomatic mission in Kyiv. The American delegation is headed by the Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll, he is the highest official of the Pentagon.
His arrival in Kyiv on Wednesday, November 19, is said to have followed a secret meeting in Miami last weekend between Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and advisers to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
Sources told the publication that a breakthrough seems unlikely, since the latest proposal presented by Witkoff contains several concessions that will be difficult for Zelensky to approve. In particular, we are talking about a significant loss of territory and severe restrictions for the Ukrainian armed forces.
The article states that Zelensky is currently weakened by a major corruption scandal involving several of his close associates. In addition, this happened at a time when Russia does not stop its pace of exhausting strikes against the country.
