Strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on rear logistics facilities on the territory of Russia can significantly increase the operational pressure on the Russian troops.

This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The report recalls that in the summer of 2022, Ukrainian troops carried out a series of HIMARS strikes against Russian ammunition depots in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This forced the Russian army to disperse their arsenals, which significantly reduced the effectiveness of their logistics.

ISW suggests that strikes by the Defense Forces of Ukraine on ammunition depots on Russian territory, similar to the attack in Toropka, may force the Russian command to review and reorganize its logistics and support systems to mitigate the consequences of such attacks.

The Russian military probably did not eliminate vulnerabilities at many logistics facilities without creating appropriate shelters. The removal of restrictions on the use of Western systems and the further development of Ukraine’s own potential for long-range strikes can give the Armed Forces of Ukraine the opportunity to more effectively exploit these enemy vulnerabilities,” the report says.

ISW analysts are convinced that further strikes by the Ukrainian army on Russian warehouses of ammunition and missiles can destroy a significant part of Russia’s material reserves.

Strikes by the Ukrainian military on objects on the territory of Russia may affect offensive operations throughout the theater of operations. This can happen if the Defense Forces have the necessary material base, capabilities and permission to conduct a large-scale campaign to strike at logistics facilities on the territory of Russia,” ISW analysts note.

In recent months, Ukrainian special forces and the military have significantly intensified attacks by drones and missiles on ammunition depots and other objects both in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in the territory of Russia.
