State Emergency Service: in Kharkiv Oblast, a man was injured after running into explosives

A resident of the Kharkiv region blew himself up with explosives, the State Emergency Service reported on January 19.

“Today, a man born in 1955 was injured in the village of Basove, Zolochiv community, Bogoduhiv district, as a result of a bicycle collision with an unknown explosive object,” the message reads.

According to rescuers, the man was wounded in the lower leg. He was hospitalized.

The State Emergency Service adds that law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

According to the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Defense and Environmental Security, as of October 1, 2024, 1,041 civilians have been injured by landmines and explosive remnants of war since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Among the victims are 99 children and 942 adults.

Rescuers reported that a third of the total area of ​​Ukraine is potentially dangerous due to mines.
