It is also reported that on August 26, Lee should visit a shipyard in Philadelphia, which was purchased by the South Korean firm in December. This is one of the industries where the US administration is counting on South Korean investments to help revitalize the US industry that has lagged behind world standards.

“The Korean shipbuilding industry, equipped with the most powerful opportunities in the world, will bring the revival of the US shipbuilding industry and will create a new historical turning point for mutual prosperity,” Lee said.

He also emphasized the importance of a military union between the US and South Korea in the fight against what he called the growing threat of nuclear weapons by North Korea. “Currently, Korea is somewhat distant from US export control and supply chains to China. But since we are geographically very close to China, we maintain our relationship with China,” Lee said.
