Six EU countries have called for a clear road card for a full entry of Ukraine to the EU against the background of the fears that Hungary will block Kiev’s European integration, Politico reports, citing a letter of diplomats to Brussels.
In a joint letter, high -ranking diplomats of Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia called Brussels to produce “Specific proposals on how to strongly promote the process of Ukraine’s accession, ”journalists say.
“Confirming the complete and unambiguous commitment of Ukraine’s membership in the EU, we call for the acceleration of the accession process. It’s time for ambitious and effective decisions in this respect, ”the message reads.
The signatories want to take action to make sure that Ukraine can really join the block by 2030.
“Ukraine has demonstrated significant progress in reforms – now it’s time to mobilize our efforts to help Ukraine,” the letter reads.
At the same time, as the letter warns, the expansion process must be “Predictable and based on their own advantages, “while” bilateral issues that are contrary to the overall strategic interests of the Union, should not be used to block progress, but be resolved through a fair dialogue. “
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the only country that impedes Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is Hungary.
March 7 Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban wrote on his page on the social network X, which is about to put “The issue of membership of Ukraine in the EU to voting in Hungary, and the Hungarian people will say their word ”, and the authorities will fulfill its will.
On March 6, Orban blocked the EU Communique, in which the block pledged to continue to maintain the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
