ATP World No. 2 and reigning tournament champion Yannick Sinner won a difficult four-set victory over Eliot Spizziri, trailing 0:1 in games. In the third set Yannick suffered from cramps, but a break to close the roof helped him get back into the game.
Sinner’s next opponent will be his compatriot Luciano Darderi, who punished Karen Khachanov. Another Italian in the 1/8 finals of the Aus Open will be Lorenzo Musetti – a victory over Tomas Makhach. For the first time in the Open Era, three Italians will play in the round of 16 of a major in Melbourne in men’s singles.

Musetti will next fight with Taylor Fritz – the American won in four games against Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss played his last match on the Australian Open courts – he will end his professional career in 2026.
Novak Djokovic beat Botik van de Zandshulp to record his 400th Grand Slam victory. Next, Djokovic will meet the Czech Jakub Menšík, who defeated Ethan Quinn.
Ben Shelton and Casper Ruud will meet in another match of the 1/8 finals. Shelton defeated Valentin Vaschero in three sets, and Ruud knocked out Marin Cilic. Among tennis players born after 2002, only Carlos Alcaraz (87) has more Grand Slam singles wins than Shelton (35).
