Over the past week the Stranger Things actor, 50, has come under the spotlight following the release of his ex-wife Lily Allen’s break-up album – West End Girl.
The couple – who were married in 2020 – started facing rumours they’d split last year, with speculation quickly mounting that he’d been unfaithful.
Last week Lily, 40, appeared to give her side of the story, releasing a string of songs that explored themes including cheating, sex addiction, and open relationships. She also tore into a woman she called Madeleine, suggesting her husband did in fact have an affair.
However, the increased attention on Harbour has also seen a story from 2015 resurface – in which a woman tragically died after taking her own life while staying in his New York City home.
In September of that year, reports emerged that an unnamed woman, aged 29, had died after ‘jumping to her death’ from the East Village apartment, which was located on the third floor.

He’s since turned comments off his social media pages (Picture: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images for Tribeca Festival) At the time it was said that the pair had met at a treatment centre, and she was staying at his home while he was in Canada.
Police said that she’d had a ‘history of mental health problems’ and her death was being investigated as an apparent suicide, later ruling the manner of death ‘undetermined’ despite the fact she’d left a note at the apartment.
Harbour, who was then best known for appearing in Broadway productions, had been in Toronto for the premiere of his movie Black Mass.
He went on to tell the New York Daily News that he’d been trying to ‘help her out’ and called the woman’s death a ‘terrible tragedy’, adding she was ‘someone who struggled’.
‘She was in the shelter system. I was trying to help her out,’ he said.
‘I’m very confused, I don’t understand how this happened. She seemed to be a lovely person. It’s a terrible tragedy. I’m very shaken by this.’

The aspiring hip hop artist would ‘network’ with Harbour (Picture: Facebook) A decade on, the Daily Mail has now reported that the woman was aspiring hip hop artist Christin Croft.
A source told the publication that Allen’s much-talked about album was ‘hitting Croft’s daughter hard’ and the family were considering ‘reaching out’ to Harbour following its release.
Reflecting on Croft’s death Marlon Martindale, who is married to her cousin Duana, said that she’d appeared to be in ‘good spirits’ before her reported suicide.
‘I don’t recall being told about a suicide note, but the last person to speak to her said she was in good spirits,’ he said.
While it’s never been clear how Croft and Harbour met, a source close to her family said she was constantly ‘networking’ and meeting meet up-and-coming actors and stars before her death.
At the time he was best known for appearing in shows including The Newsroom (Picture: HBO/ Prime Video) ‘She spoke of her friend who had a nice apartment in Manhattan, who was an actor. She mentioned she’d be hanging out there and sometimes staying overnight when they were out late,’ her relative explained.
‘They were good friends. They’d do a lot of networking together. He helped her meet people in acting and music. She was friendly, always trying to get her foot in the door with rappers, singers, producers and directors. That’s how they met, through that circle.’
He also added that Croft had denied having a romantic relationship with Harbour. ‘She was a socialite, an event promoter – she just wanted to be seen,’ he said.
Social media posts in the months leading up to Croft’s death suggested she was struggling with her mental health while trying to crack into the music industry.
‘I’m just a wrecked ship tryna make it ashore. Some things are too damaged to be repaired. Rough sailing on this deck. About to walk the plank,’ one post shared six months before she died read.
In the years since he’s starred as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things (Picture: Netflix/ Kobal/ Shutterstock) ‘She struggled with mental illness. She was trying to get her life together,’ Martindale confirmed, explaining her daughter was also being looked after by relatives at the time.
‘She was working hard and trying to get her daughter back at the time. They were working on getting back that mother-daughter bond when she died,’ he shared.
He also pushed back against claims she was staying in a shelter before ending up at Harbour’s apartment. ‘Christin had plenty of places to stay, she wasn’t in the shelter system like he said, she had plenty of family to stay with – or sometimes she would be recording and stay there,’ he added.
At the time of Croft’s death, Harbour was best known for being nominated for a Tony Award for his performance as Nick in the revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in 2005, after which he’d gone on to appear in TV shows including Elementary, The Newsroom and Manhattan.
He was cast in Stranger Things in 2015, with the fifth and final season set to premiere next month.
In the past he’d spoken about his struggles with alcoholism and bipolar disorder diagnosis, sharing he once hit ‘rock bottom’ and faced homelessness.

And there were times in my life where very easily I could have ended up on the streets, but I luckily had a family who could support me through those lean and very trying times,’ he once told The Independent.
‘I have been struggling with the medical model of mental illness for a long time. I started to really get into talk therapy around the particular trauma, and I find that narrative and stories, dealing intellectually and emotionally with personal trauma, has been far more liberating to me than hospitals and drugs.’
In recent days the actor has turned off comments on his social media page as he continues to face public scrutiny over his tumultuous break-up with his Allen.
West End Girl – her first album in seven years – has already topped the UK iTunes carts and has been streamed more than eight million times.
