Artificial intelligence. Probably one of the most popular and discussed topics of the last few years. If until recently we could only imagine what he could do, today each of us can turn to him for help, advice, make a daily schedule, solve various tasks, etc. And it is safe to say that today this technology is changing the world in many aspects from finance to medicine, from manufacturing to creative industries.

However, like everything new, AI managed to generate a lot of fears. Of course, we are talking about job loss, risks of information leakage, legal regulation and many other aspects. Although, if you understand, everything depends only on us. Only users grant permissions to process their own data, access to photo gallery, location, etc. But let’s take a closer look at these fears.

AI will make me lose my job

Artificial intelligence is a machine that learns from information and then generates responses based on that information. And let’s be realistic. will AI replace, for example, an English teacher? Partly so. He will provide the theory and will be able to communicate with the student, but will not control the learning process in any way. And if the doctor? For example, some models of the latest AI will analyze the body in detail, indicate a disease, etc. But will these models perform an extremely complex operation? And will the patient be provided with qualified care?

Moreover, the founder of Microsoft Corporation and philanthropist Bill Gates shared his thoughts on the development of AI and certain human fears. He notes that in the next few years AI will mostly help people perform their work more effectively. And the demand for professions related to helping others (teachers, medical personnel, caretakers, trainers) will never disappear.

Yes, AI is uncontrolled

On the Internet, you can see the following or similar titles: “AI wrote text based on the Bible” or “AI surpassed doctors in predicting heart attacks“. And they can scare people because AI is all-powerful. But in reality it is not so.

A few years ago, one of the researchers of artificial intelligence Daniel Leifer even created the siteon the AI myths he uncovered, analyzing media reports for more than six months.

So, the researcher emphasizes the falsity of the statement. In this way, the AI is attributed with abilities that it does not have. He cannot act or decide on his own. When people see a headline about something that artificial intelligence has discovered or done, there is a high probability that an image of an all-powerful AI will form in their brains.

However, if you look at it, this idea is far from reality and hides the role of humans in the achievements of AI. Humans have developed some kind of system with AI. It was then programmed and calibrated to achieve specific results.

Well, we must not forget that, as a rule, some kind of discovery or achievement is the result of analyzing a large array of data with the help of AI. For him to be able to do this analysis, people first had to collect the data, ensure that there was enough of it, and make sure that it was a balanced representation of the problem to be solved. All this takes not a day or two, but several months.

Ago Daniel Leifer emphasizes that AI is no more than a tool we use to achieve our goals, just like a pen, calculator or computer.

The rise of machines, robots and war through AI

If the data leak is flowers, then the fruits can be increasingly worse consequences, right? Yes, artificial intelligence can really help hackers develop malicious software to hack anything electronic and “smart”. However, it should be understood that any technology that falls into the wrong hands is capable of terrible things. In this case, we should not forget that AI also does good things. Bill Gates comments on it like this:

“Cybercriminals will not stop developing new tools. Like people who want to use AI to develop nuclear weapons or biological attacks. Therefore, the creation of technology to counter them should take place at the same pace.”

“What good does AI do?” you ask. Let’s take a look at today’s businesses and their interaction with AI. Believe me, there will be a lot of interesting things:

ChatGPT

The first example we will show is the OpenAI company, since they can be called an excellent example of a good business. On November 30, 2022, the world saw the first ChatGPT, and two years later, this is what we have.

GPT-4 will be released in March 2024. The model is characterized by increased accuracy and the ability to process more complex requests. That same month, support for plugins for ChatGPT was added, allowing integration of third-party services such as Expedia, OpenTable, Zapier, Shopify, Slack, and Wolfram, expanding the chatbot’s functionality.

In May OpenAI introduces GPT-4o, a new model that integrates text, image and audio processing in real time.

In July 2024, OpenAI developed CriticGPT, a model designed to detect and correct errors in the code generated by ChatGPT, improving the accuracy and reliability of programming-related answers.

And we cannot fail to mention the main assistant ChatGPT with whom you can chat in real time. Try to talk to him. For sure, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Google

Google actively uses AI in many of its products: from the search engine to Google Translate. Neural networks help process user requests, improve the accuracy of translations and make the process of using the Internet more convenient. Moreover, the company has developed its own AI – Google Gemini. It has simpler functionality, but it is no worse than its predecessor (we advise you to try it).

On own website the company notes the following:

“In 2018, we developed AI principles that help us create tools that make the world a better place for everyone. These principles describe our goals – to develop innovative technologies that will help responsibly solve some of society’s biggest problems.

For example, we use AI to:

support the fight against climate changefor example, to reduce traffic jams and thereby reduce emissions from vehicles;

predict or monitor natural disasterssuch as predicting floods in more than 20 countries and tracking wildfire boundaries in real time;

support innovation in healthcaresuch as making tuberculosis diagnosis more accessible or helping to detect breast cancer in its early stages.

In addition, our principles list the areas in which we will not use AI (for example, technologies that cause general harm or violate international law and human rights).”

As you can see, not only help with user requests, but also a lot of extremely important processes. The company is conscious of the use of technology, therefore it limits its use for “dubious purposes”.

Grammarly

A startup with Ukrainian roots that has become very popular abroad. Grammarly improves the quality of written communication by offering recommendations for correctness, clarity, catchiness, and message tone. Today it is considered the most expensive startup with Ukrainian roots. According to the results of last year DOU survey69% of IT professionals would like to work for the company. Grammarly actively uses AI to analyze text and offers improvements to help users write more clearly and competently. Its technologies also take into account the context, which makes the verification even more accurate.

What’s more, The Ministry of Digital Transformation held a meeting with the management of Grammarly, where the development of AI in our country was also discussed.

“The focus of cooperation is the development of artificial intelligence in Ukraine. Grammarly is already actively involved in the development of the Ukrainian Code of Conduct for the Responsible Use of AI. Then there are even more joint innovative projects.” – it is said in messages Ministry of Foreign Affairs

New mail

The company is known to all Ukrainians. The new post office has also incorporated technology into its processes. In particular, they use artificial intelligence to optimize logistics and analyze customer data. Using AI to improve delivery routes. This reduces delivery costs and the time it takes for the cargo to arrive at the branch.

However, that is not all. Did you know that the company has already opened branches in 14 countries. And now Nova Poshta is testing a new AI-based service to automate the registration of international shipments.

“This technology makes it possible to significantly reduce the time that operators spend on processing shipments.

If previously this process could take from two minutes to an hour and a half, thanks to the new system they hope to reduce the time to 20 seconds.” informs dev.ua.

Kyivstar

The mobile operator uses AI to analyze user behavior, which allows offering personalized services and tariffs, increasing customer loyalty. The president of “Kyivstar” Oleksandr Komarov noted the following back in November 2023:

“I think that a year and a half is realistic when we see the first elements of ChatGPT integration in Kyivstar’s work with clients”

In addition, in 2023, the companies actively talked about the introduction of ChatGPT in the virtual assistant Zoryan.

“We are currently completely revising the approach to Zoryana to make it still adequate to use ChatGPT, rather than trying to speed up the old technology.”told B2C director of “Kyivstar” Tetyana Lukynyuk.

So if you are new to AI, you can start with any language model (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and others). Explore something new and don’t be afraid to experiment.
