Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenka should give the public answers to the questions regarding the shooting in Cherkasy region, as a result of which four policemen and a veteran of the Ukrainian-Russian war Serhiy Rusinov were killed. This was stated by journalist Denys Kazanskyi.
“The military is demanding an objective investigation. I would like the Minister of Internal Affairs to provide a relevant comment. Not just a standard disclaimer such as “the status of a veteran is not an excuse for committing intentional murders,” which has already been voiced by the National Police. But a specific answer to the questions asked by the locals,” he wrote on Facebook.
Among these issues are the “ambiguous actions” of representatives of the local authorities, which could have provoked a shootout and mass casualties. The veteran’s entourage said that a pro-Russian deputy and the local police leadership, who are in close relations with him, could be behind the events.

The killing of the veteran caused a protest: on February 1, the military and friends of the deceased held a rally in Cherkasy, during which they demanded a fair investigation into all the circumstances that led to the death of five people. They called Oleh Gudyma, the head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Cherkasy region, directly responsible for what happened, and called for his dismissal.
“At first, it seemed that this was a sad incident of the kind that, unfortunately, happens in warring countries. When people with weapons enter into conflicts with each other, the consequences are sometimes like this. However, in this case, the situation turned out to be clearly more complicated, and it requires intervention and careful verification at the highest level,” the journalist emphasized.
On January 27, in Cherkasy Oblast, a man who, according to the National Police, was wanted on suspicion of murder, opened fire on law enforcement officers during his detention. Four policemen died, one more was wounded. At the same time, the special forces also eliminated the suspect.
Later, the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Cherkasy region, Oleg Gudyma, clarified that the shooting in the Cherkasy region against law enforcement officers was carried out by a former military man. According to local residents, the shooter is Serhiy Rusinov, who allegedly had a personal conflict with a deputy of the Korsun City Council.
