Elections to the Seimas were held in Lithuania on October 13. At 8:00 p.m., the polling stations for the parliamentary elections closed, and the counting of the results is currently underway.

52.06% of voters came to vote at the ballot boxes, which is significantly more than the turnout four years ago – 47.16%, local media report.

According to the data of the Main Election Commission, after the closing of the polling stations on Sunday, it became clear that on this main day of elections to the Parliament, the Seimas, 40.31% voted. 11.75% of voters expressed their will early.

Thus, almost 2.4 million voters could participate in the elections this year. In Lithuania, 141 parliamentarians are elected: 71 in single-mandate constituencies and 70 in multi-mandate constituencies.

This year, 1,740 politicians ran for the Diet, 14 parties and one coalition put forward lists of candidates.

Lina Petronene, the head of the Central Committee of the Central Committee of Ukraine, expects that it will be possible to learn about “more accurate results of the elections to the Diet” at 2-3 o’clock in the morning.

“First, we will count the ballots of single-mandate constituencies, and then – multi-mandate constituencies,” Petronene explained.

According to her, “the counting of votes can take longer not only in large districts, but also in those districts where there were many people who voted in advance. Because of this, it will be necessary to check each voter to understand whether he voted on election day.”

Later, the first results of the first round of elections to the Seimas in the state-wide multi-mandate district became known: the Social Democrats are in the lead, “Svitanok Nemunasu” is in second place.

At this time, votes have been counted in 594 constituencies since 1947, which together make up a nationwide multi-mandate district.

The Social Democrats are in the lead with 26.76% voter support. In second place is the party, which is considered populist, “Svitanok Nemunas” with 19.29% of the votes.

The current ruling party, the Union of the Fatherland – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, is in third place with 10.13% of the vote. In fourth place is the Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens with 9.69% of votes, followed by the Democratic Union “In the Name of Lithuania” with 9.45%, led by Saulius Skvernialis (prime minister of Lithuania in 2016-2020). ).
