In an interview with UNIAN, this opinion is the chairman of the Board of the Center for Applied Political Studies “Penta” Vladimir Fesenko.
He stressed that Putin is constantly trying to take time, and this story has been repeated more than once. In particular, he recalled that in May, European leaders, together with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, exhibited Putin ultimatum: either an immediate ceasefire or new sanctions. Then the Russian dictator offered negotiations in Istanbul.
“Unfortunately, Trump agreed to it, and then the issue of sanctions against Russia was postponed for an indefinite time. Negotiations began, but there is no result to end the war. Now – a similar situation. Putin can repeat this” trick “: to offer negotiations at a higher level.
The political scientist also commented that Putin would try to delay the preparation for talks with Trump until he first consults with the Chinese ruler Xi Jinping.
“Both China and Americans do not want a new trade war. And they understand that China can influence Russia and convince the Russians still end the war. At the same time Putin can try to agree with Xi Jinping that we need to speak together against Trump. Putin and Trump negotiationsAccording to UNIAN, the day before, the negotiations of an American specialist with a Russian dictator were held in Moscow, as a result of which Trump announced a personal meeting with Putin “in the near future”.
Immediately afterwards, Trump had a telephone conversation with European leaders, in which, according to Western media, he informed the interlocutors that Putin was ready for a certain exchange of territories.
Today, the Russian dictator has publicly stated that a meeting with Trump can take place in the UAE. He also reported that he was ready to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
