It is noted that scientists discovered clay cylinders covered with symbols as long as a human finger in a Bronze Age burial site at Umm al-Marra, one of the oldest cities in the Middle East.
In addition, six skeletons, gold and silver ornaments, kitchen utensils, a spearhead and whole ceramic vessels were also found there.
Radiocarbon dating has shown that the alphabetic cylinders were created around 2400 BC, which is about 500 years older than the oldest known examples of writing.
Scholars previously believed that the alphabet was invented in Egypt or the region surrounding it sometime after 1900 BC. But the artifacts found are older and belong to another area. This suggests that the story of the origin of the alphabet was not as it is commonly thought,
