In Kyiv region, from January 19, 2026, face-to-face education in schools will be resumed with the introduction of a special format adapted to long-term blackouts and problems with heating.

The head of the Kyiv regional military administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, emphasized that despite the difficult energy situation caused by the attacks of the Russian Federation, the training process should continue in safe conditions. The new work algorithm envisages reducing the duration of lessons to 30 minutes and ending the second shift classes no later than 4:00 p.m., so that children can return home before the onset of darkness and peak loads on the power grid.

Most educational institutions in the region are already equipped with alternative power sources, individual boiler rooms and have equipped shelters to work during air raids. The authorities paid special attention to logistics: roads to schools must be cleared of snow, and mandatory hot meals must be provided for students. The Regional Defense Council recommended that each community independently determine the start date of the semester for specific institutions, focusing on their real readiness and technical capabilities to maintain the temperature regime.

Due to the critical situation in the energy sector, the winter vacation in the capital’s schools was extended until February 1, 2026.

Kyiv City Administration and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine react to the difficult situation in education caused by the consequences of missile attacks on the energy infrastructure.
