In 2025, Russia’s budget expenditures under the article “National Defense” are expected to be 13.5 trillion rubles, The Bell writes with reference to the explanatory note to the draft law on the federal budget (this link does not open in Ukraine). Thus, military spending will make up 6.31% of Russia’s gross domestic product.

The draft federal budget for 2025 and for the planning period of 2026 and 2027 was submitted to the State Duma on September 30.

A week before, the Bloomberg agency got acquainted with the project of the three-year Russian budget, which provided for military spending of 13.2 trillion rubles ($142 billion or 6.2% of GDP), that is, less than in the current version.

In the 2024 budget, 10.4 trillion rubles were set aside for military spending, which was a record at the time. A year ago, it was predicted that in 2025 and 2026, military spending would decrease to 8.5 and 7.4 trillion rubles, respectively.
