Details: On the night and morning of January 15, Russian troops carried out a large series of missile and drone strikes on energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian forces launched 74 Shahed attack drones and other attack UAVs and 43 missiles over Ukraine.
The Air Force stated that the Ukrainian defense forces shot down 23 Kh-101/55SM missiles, three Kalibr missiles, four Kh-59/69 missiles and 47 drones, while 27 drones were “lost” and did not reach their targets.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the Russian strikes were aimed at Ukrainian gas facilities and other energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials reported damage to energy facilities and critical infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv and Lviv regions, as well as residential areas in Kirovohrad region.
Literally ISW: “Russia has been regularly attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with a large series of strikes, beginning in the winter of 2022-2023, likely in an attempt to destroy Ukraine’s energy grid, limit its defense industrial capacity, and weaken Ukrainians’ will to fight.”
