“Russian pipeline gas exports to Europe in 2025 fell to a record low of 18 billion cubic meters — down 44% from last year, the lowest since the 1970s. The reason is the conclusion of the transit agreement through Ukraine and the reduction of the import of energy carriers from Russia by the European Union”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
This is the lowest value since the 1970s. Then the USSR began to export gas from Siberia to Europe for the first time. Thus, in 1973, the Soviet Union delivered 6.8 billion cubic meters of gas, and in 1975 – 19.3 billion cubic meters of gas.
The peak of exports fell in 2018-2019: then the volume of supplies exceeded 175-180 billion cubic meters per year and brought in tens of billions of dollars.
Reuters notes that the reduction in supplies is related to the termination of the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine and the fact that the European Union is reducing the import of energy carriers from Russia.
Currently, the only transit route for exporting Russian gas to Europe is Turkish Stream. In addition to Turkey, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia receive gas through this pipeline.
Russia also supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG) using tankers and remains the second largest supplier of LNG to the European Union after the United States, Reuters writes.
