In Russia, the Second Western District Military Court sentenced former Moscow municipal deputy Oleksiy Horinov to three years in prison in the case of justifying terrorism, Mediazona reports.

The prosecution asked for 3.5 years of imprisonment for Horinov.

According to the totality of the sentences (Gorinov is serving his term in another case from 2022), he has to spend another five years in the colony, the mode of detention for him has been changed to a strict one. In 2022, Horinov was given seven years in a general regime colony.

The reason for the case was Horinov’s conversations with his roommates in the prison hospital. According to the investigation, Horinov justified the detonation of the Crimean bridge, as well as the actions of the Azov battalion and the Ukrainian intelligence unit Kraken, recognized in Russia as terrorist organizations. Horinov claims that the interlocutors provoked him to talk about politics, and he did not say anything that could be interpreted as a justification for terrorism.

At the trial, as “Mediazona” noted, the witnesses of the prosecution talked about conversations with Horinov with the same wording. Former editor-in-chief of “Novaya Gazeta” and Nobel laureate Dmytro Muratov said that the administration planted prisoners with hidden microphones in Gorinov’s cell, these persons were supposed to summon the politician for conversations and record audio. Horinov himself told about the “microphone”.

The hearings in Horinov’s case took place in the Volodymyr Garrison Military Court (he is serving his previous term in the colony of this region). Consideration of Horinov’s new case began on November 27. Horinov came to the first meeting with a poster “Enough to kill. Let’s stop the war.”

On the day of the announcement of the verdict, Horinov said that he was put on a preventive register as prone to terrorist acts. He is already on the record as prone to escape and suicide.

In prison, Horinov’s health deteriorated significantly, he was treated for pneumonia. After one of the hearings in the new case, lawyer Mykhailo Biryukov, who is familiar with Horinov, said that the politician “looked very bad.” But he is “very upbeat,” Biryukov noted.

Oleksii Horinov is already serving a seven-year term, to which he was sentenced in July 2022 on charges of spreading so-called “fakes” about the army. The reason for the case was his speech at a meeting of municipal deputies of the Krasnosil district of Moscow, during which, among other things, he proposed to announce a moment of silence “for the victims of military aggression in Ukraine.” The term assigned to Horinov became one of the largest in cases of “fakes” about the army.
