Russian fake Gerber drones contain foreign parts from at least four countries. This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on November 18.
These UAVs can carry a combat unit as a kamikaze and conduct radio-electronic reconnaissance, in particular, to detect air defense positions and record the hits of other strike drones.
These drones contain plywood and foam, which makes them much cheaper than other drones. But in the design the drone is a set of components from foreign manufacturers, in particular China, the USA, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, which is common for Russian weapons. Foreign companies supply parts through third-party firms.
Gerber drones are used by the Russian Federation to simulate Shahed and Geran-2 to overload Ukrainian air defenses. Russia assembles such multitasking drones at a factory in the city of Yelabuga.
With the help of the analysis of the knocked-down samples, experts found out that the Russians manufacture “Gerbers” according to the Chinese prototype, using foreign components imported from China. For example, Gerbera’s anti-interference antenna contains chips from the American company Texas Instruments, the Dutch companies NXP Semiconductors and Analog Devices.
This is not the first drone used by Russia for decoys that contains foreign components. Recently, Russia has been massively using fake drones to overwhelm Ukrainian air defense during airstrikes. An investigation by the Russian “Parody” showed that its flight controller module contains components manufactured by companies from China, the United States and Taiwan.

- On November 10, two fake “Parody” drones fell in Moldova. During October 2024, the Russian Federation launched more than 2,000 UAVs over Ukraine, half of which were decoys or false targets.
- On September 24, the adviser to the President of Ukraine, Vladyslav Vlasyuk, reported that Russia receives about 60% of foreign components from China.
