Russian Gazprom has warned Austria that it will suspend gas transit through Ukraine from November 16. This means that the cessation of supplies of blue fuel from Moscow to Europe in the near future cannot be avoided. This is reported by the international news agency Reuters, reports UNN.

Details

The publication notes that the oldest route for the export of Russian gas to Europe is a pipeline built in Soviet times. Ukraine plans to close it at the end of this year, when the agreement expires, to deprive Russia of the revenues that help Moscow finance the war.

The termination of Gazprom’s cooperation with Austria means that Russia will now supply significant volumes of gas only to Hungary and Slovakia, in the case of Hungary – through a pipeline that runs mainly through Turkey.

Chancellor of Austria Karl Nehammer said that Gazprom’s announcement about the suspension of supplies was expected, and Austria had prepared for it.

“No house will cool down… the gas storages are full enough,” he told reporters.

The oil and gas company OMV assures that they are ready to stop the supply of gas from Russia and will be able to supply gas to their customers by importing it through Germany and Italy, as well as receiving liquefied gas from the Netherlands.

We will remind

Although Russia is losing its position on the European gas market, some countries still cannot refuse to buy Russian energy carriers. According to the Bruegel analytical center, Russia accounted for 15% of gas imports into the EU in 2023.
