As Reuters writes, the statement was published by a unit of the G7 rapid response mechanism, which was created to combat such threats to democracy as disinformation.

“The Group of Seven RRM takes any foreign information manipulation and interference with the utmost seriousness,” said a statement released by Canada, which chairs the G7 this year.

The statement said Russia used the state-run propaganda media Russia Today and the marketing agency Social Design Agency “to promote the Kremlin’s harmful interests” and divert attention from its war in Ukraine.

The members of the RRM include the G7, as well as four observer countries – Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Sweden.

Russian disinformationFor decades, Russia has used disinformation and outright lies to cover up its crimes. The tragedy of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 dealt a serious blow to Moscow’s propaganda machine.

The Telegraph wrote that Russia reacted to this tragedy with the usual mixture of obfuscation and disinformation.
