Rolls-Royce has won a contract to build small modular nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic.
About this informs Financial Times.
The British aerospace and defense group has beaten six other competitors to sign a deal with state-owned EZ Group.
Rolls-Royce is on track to win its first order from a European government to build small nuclear reactors after being selected as the best supplier in a tender overseen by the Czech government.
Negotiations to finalize contract terms are still ongoing and the deal is still subject to regulatory approval.
The first reactor is planned to be built near the South Czech Temelin nuclear power plant and is likely to be built in the mid-2030s.
Rolls-Royce’s small modular reactor project, which will have a capacity of 470 MW, is reported to be relatively large for this type of reactor. They are usually 300 MW or less.
